FAQS

+ What happens during the Cosmelan or Dermamelan peel?

The treatment comprises two phases, the first to be applied in the clinic by the practitioner, and the second maintenance program to be applied at home.

Phase 1 : Involves an in clinic treatment which takes 30 minutes and involves the application of the Dermamelan or Cosmelan mask. Once the mask is applied, you will go home with the mask on and leave it on for 8-12 hours depending on your skin type. After this time the mask is washed off.

Phase 2 : This consists of a four month home-care maintenance program, which is critical to the success of your treatment. You will be given instructions to follow to best maintain your results.

+ What can I expect during the pigmentation peel treatment?

The peel will cause redness, tightness and skin shedding as it heals. Depending on your work, it may be necessary to take some time off.

Day 1-4 : Your skin will be red, tight, hot and mildly swollen. Dermamelan treatment will have more downtime than Cosmelan as it has more potent ingredients.

Day 4-5 : Skin peeling will start around this time and may last 7 to 10 days. It is very important not to pick, or exfoliate the skin. Please allow your skin to heal naturally. If you pick the skin, you will increase the risk of infection and scarring.

+ Who should not have Dermamelan and Cosmelan treatments?

Both treatments are not suitable if you are pregnant or breastfeeding, or planning a pregnancy in the next six months. Not suitable if you have poorly controlled rosacea.

+ When will I see the results?

After the peeling has stopped, the skin will start to show substantial improvement. Results will be noticeable 2 to 3 weeks post treatment. Blemishes being treated will start to diminish and simultaneously, the skin will start to show a brighter and more rejuvenated look. This will continue to slowly improve over time as long as you adhere to the home-care program and reduce any triggers such as sun exposure.

Please note that if you do not use your home-care program, forget to apply regular sunscreen or regularly expose your skin to the sun, the treatment will not work.
