MDerma Micro Needling

Micro needling is a popular method for skin rejuvenation, wrinkle reduction, and treating scars. The MDerma Fractional Dermal needling system is the latest generation of skin needling devices to be available in Australia.

The Mderma uses sterile sealed disposable needle cartridges to create micro channels in the skin and deliver topical ingredients such as hyaluronic acid and growth factors (Factor4/PRP).

The benefits of skin needling is double-fold. Firstly, the small punctures are a form of controlled injury which stimulates the skin’s natural healing responses and the production of collagen and elastin in the skin. This process is called Collagen Induction Therapy. It is a physiological process that improves the thickness, colour, texture and consistency of the skin. Secondly, the MDerma needling system improves the delivery of active ingredients to the skin via the micro needling channels.

The depth of MDMA micro needles can be adjusted, which allows treatment to be adapted to each individual’s needs. This customisation also means a MDerma can be used in sensitive areas such as the eyelids, lips and nose - areas that are usually not treatable with other modalities.

Visible results from MDerma skin needling include:

  • Tightens, lifts and rejuvenate the skin

  • Reduces keloid scars and surgical scars

  • Reduce acne scarring

  • Reduces wrinkles and fine lines

  • Reduces stretchmarks

  • Decreases pore size

FAQS

+ What happens during treatment?

Topical anaesthetic cream is applied to the face prior to treatment. Treatment time is approximately 30 minutes.

+ What is the recovery time following Mderma skin needling?

The recovery time following skin needling treatment depends on the depth of treatment, and is typically 12-48 hours.

+ How frequently should I have it done?

For best results, it is recommended for treatment over a course of four weeks or otherwise recommended by your practitioner.

+ What is the after care?

It is recommended not to wear make up or wash the face for up to 12 hours. This allows sufficient time for the skin to heal.

For the first 1 to 3 days the skin will be very dry and feel tight. Frequent use of a hyaluronic acid (HA) and Phyto serum will help alleviate this. Application of a hydrating face mask will also help.

After 2 to 3 days patients can return to their regular skincare products or as soon as it is comfortable to do so. Vitamin A products are optimal and recommended.

Avoid alcohol based toners for 10 to 14 days.

Avoid direct sun exposure for at least 10 days if possible.

+ How many sessions does it take to see the results?

Often a series of treatments is recommended to achieve the optimal results. Skin rejuvenation often requires 4-6 treatments, acne scarring is usually a minimum of 6 treatments, and stretchmarks may require between 4 to 6 treatments. Results may be visible after one treatment, however the skin will continue to improve in the months following the procedure as the new collagen continues to develop.

+ What are the side-effects?

The risk involved in micro needling treatments is very minimal. After treatments, dry skin or red discolouration may occur, which will typically settle within a week.
